Our Humpback Whale in Banderas Bay (FIBB) Photo-identification Catalog celebrates 30 years!
This catalog enables us to identify each humpback whale that has visited Bahía de Banderas and other parts of the world by its unique patterns on the flukes.
The catalog contains more than 13,233 fluke photographs, and since 1996, we have documented over 3,830 different whales visiting our waters.

RESEARCH FOR CONSERVATION
This is the seventh consecutive year of the study on the Abundance, Distribution, and Seasonality of Humpback Whales in Banderas Bay.
We began since November.
To date, it has been an excellent season, with a high presence of whales 🐋 (an average of 8 whales per hour).
LESS SPEED = MORE LIVES
This marks the seventh consecutive year of the “LESS SPEED = MORE LIVES” campaign. We implement strategies to prevent collisions between recreational vessels and whales in Bahía de Banderas and in Los Cabos.
The campaign includes the installation of banners at marinas, outreach to boaters at embarkation points, advertisements on public transportation buses, as well as videos and social media posts.
Fleets change, and new people arrive each season, making it a constant challenge to reach all boaters.
We are grateful for the support of Marina Riviera Nayarit, Marina BVG Puerto Vallarta, Opequimar – Centro Marino, Los Peines, and ASIPONA in Bahía de Banderas; as well as the Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna, Marina Cabo San Lucas, Marina IGGY, Marina Fundadores, Unión de Pescadores y Servicios Náuticos de Los Cabos, and Asociación Marítima del Mar de Cortés, A.C., in Los Cabos.
Please help us by liking and sharing the following video about La Impostora, a female whale who survived a collision!!
TRAINING FOR TOUR-OPERATORS
Before the start of the season, over the course of four days, in collaboration with authorities and other associations, we provided training to 877 tour operators and tour guides in Jalisco and Nayarit on best practices for whale watching.
ON FEBRUARY 19, WE CELEBRATE WORLD WHALE DAY
At ECOBAC, we work for whales every day of the year. In February, we focus on raising awareness about their importance 🐋 and strive to ensure that our message reaches a wider audience 😃.
As part of our February activities, we have been delivering educational talks and participating in various events throughout the month, and we will continue doing so in the coming weeks.
